Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Oksana Lut held talks with Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Majnun Mammadov. The event was held via videoconference. The parties discussed the development of cooperation in the agro-industrial complex, increasing the volume of bilateral trade in agricultural products, as well as intensifying joint work in the field of agricultural education and research activities.
Azerbaijan is one of Russia’s important partners in the agro-industrial complex. Mutual trade between our countries is steadily increasing. In 2024, the main volume of domestic supplies to the Azerbaijani market in value terms was wheat. In recent years, its export has amounted to about 1 million tons annually. Oksana Lut emphasized that Russia is ready to meet Azerbaijan’s needs for wheat imports. She also said that a business mission of leading Russian grain exporters will arrive in Azerbaijan in May.
One of the most important areas of Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation is the export of domestic veterinary drugs. Our leading manufacturers are ready to ensure stable supplies of certified veterinary medicines.
The Ministers also discussed prospects for joint work in the field of animal husbandry. The Russian side is ready to export young breeding animals with high genetic potential for offspring, provide the best genetics for the main and gene pool breeds of cattle and small cattle, and organize testing of the Russian cross “Smena 9” at poultry enterprises in Azerbaijan.
Another important area of partnership between the two countries is cooperation in the field of agricultural education. The parties are ready to strengthen work on the development of research projects between universities and agricultural enterprises.
The countries are also interested in conducting joint research on the selection and technology of cultivation of seeds of agricultural crops. This is especially important for strengthening food security and technological sovereignty.
